My Blueberry Nights (12A)

As part of the Riverside Festival's oriental theme we are screening legendary Chinese
filmmaker Kar Wai Wong's first English-language film, a romantic road movie about a
woman who sets off across America in the hopes of mending her broken heart.
Elizabeth (Norah Jones) abandons her life to chase her dreams across the country,
crossing paths with a series of lost souls including a troubled cop, his estranged wife
and an embittered gambler whose combined emotional turmoil helps her gain an
understanding of herself.

Spirited Away (PG)

In Japanese with English subtitles

Continuing with Riverside Festival's oriental theme we present this Japanese animated
treat for all the family. In the middle of her family's move to the suburbs, sullen
10-year-old Chihiro wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters; where
humans are changed into animals; and a bathhouse exists for 8 million gods.

amazing style in Spirited Away, an imaginative introduction to Japanese Anime that is
as colourful as any Disney production."

ACCESS LINCS MUSIC SHOWCASE

Trinity is delighted to present an evening of music from up-and-coming young
musicians studying at Access To Music in Lincoln, the UK's leading designer and
provider of popular music education, training and consultancy. Since 1992, the
company has been providing music training to thousands of musicians across the
country, equipping young people with valuable life skills. Lincoln's fast developing
music scene is part of a larger thriving arts community in Lincolnshire and this
showcase in an opportunity to see the next Noel Gallagher, Thom Yorke or Jimmy Page.

Saturday 7th June

Saturday sees a continental market on market Square,  plus along the riverside lots of
interesting stalls from local organisations, businesses and charities, and again a first
for 2008 is a craft fayre and photographic exhibition within the Methodist Church Hall,
well worth a visit!  There will be a family fun fair on Ship Court car park, and a fabulous
pagoda housing various craft and art activities on Whittons Gardens.  Further fun
activities to join in with will be provided by local Guides, Brownies and Scouts, along
with Children's Links.

Gainsborough Old Hall will be once again offering various stalls and activities to join in
the fun, both inside and outside in the spacious grounds.  Watch out for activities on the
River Trent, and all along the riverside Walk!  the fun carries on until our fantastic bands
performances in the State Club, 6.00pm - 9.00pm
.

Sunday 8th June

a sport theme, to tie in with the Beijing Olympics which start in August.  We are offering
taster sessions of lots of different sports activities both at Old Hall and in Parish Church
grounds!  Come along prepared to have a go at New Age Kurling; badminton; table
tennis; taekwondo; tai chi; and lots lots more - find out what clubs and groups there are
to join locally.  meanwhile for some fun have a go at Sumo Wrestling, bungee run,
Gladiator jousting, obstacle course and a fun adults bouncy castle!!

There will also be lots of arts and craft activities and stalls at Old Hall along with the
Liferiders, and the fair continues for more family fun in Ship Court car park.
June Exhibition.
'Steles' comprising of photographs taken of
northern China by Anglo-French (Skegness
born) photographer Christopher Taylor. The
pictures have NEVER been exhibited in the
UK before and Bend in the River are
privileged to have had unique access to
them. It's a beautiful
exhibition, which in the naturally lit setting
of the church will be
stunning. We have chosen to host the show
to coincide with the
Festival, and feel that it provide a substantial
cultural input!!
Oriental Quest - A fun competition for all the
family with great prizes!  Collect your entry
form from the Festival Information Point on
Riverside Walk, then look out for the 12
various Chinese Zodiac symbols on various
stalls, on the Riverside and at the Craft fayre
in Methodist Church hall, there is also a
letter on the zodiac, rearrange this into a
word connected to this years festival and
post your entry back at the Festival

Duck Race - ducks still available to 'buy' from
the Gainsborough Lions stall in Whitton's
Gardens - the winner with the fastest duck
gets £80!! the runner up £50 and third place
gets £20 -  all profits split between the
festival and local charities.

Fit as a Fiddle Programme - Join  Age
Concern at Old hall on Saturday and have a
go at a movement to music programme
specially designed for the over 60's and the
less able, have fun whilst exercising to
increase flexibility, strengthen posture and
cor-ordination.  Also find out about local
classes.

Street Athletics - Sunday only.  Under 20's
60m Road Race taking part in Market Place.  
This race is organised locally by
Lincolnshire Sports Partnership.  Just turn up
for your chance to compete in this national
competition, winners will attend the County
final, where LInford Christie and Darren
Campbell will be present.  Winners from the
County final will take part in the national
final in Manchester!

Gainsborough Family Cycle Rides - Sunday
only - be part of National Bike Week, and
join a short bike ride out to Beckingham.  
Depart 10.30am and 2.00pm from the
Library.  Just bring your own bike - between 1
7 -10 years need a parent present.

Gainsborough History Stroll - 4.00 - 5.30pm
Sunday only - Meet with Thelma Childs by
the Library - £2.50 adults/children free.

Riverside Praise - A Christian service in the
grounds of Old Hall - come and join us for a
selection of songs of praise, short sketches
and modern readings to close a wonderful
two days of community involvement, activity
and fun
